Violinist Qiao Chen Solomon to Release Album Spotlighting Women Composers
DECATUR, Ga – Violinist Qiao Chen Solonon, faculty member in Agnes Scott College’s
creative arts department, releases her new album, Echoes of Her, on September 18 through
Navona Records, the classical label of PARMA Recordings. The album pairs Solomon with
pianist Paolo André Gualdi, on faculty at Francis Marion University and the University of North
Carolina Wilmington, for four works written for violin and piano by women composers: Amanda
Maier, Amy Beach, Florence Price and Poldowski (Irène Régine Wieniawska). Recorded in
October 2025 at Morning Star Studio in Norristown, Pennsylvania, the album was produced by
Dave Schonauer, Solomon and Gualdi.
Solomon will celebrate the release with a recital at Agnes Scott on Sunday, October 4.
“As a performer, I am continually drawn to music that invites connection—across time, across
cultures and across lived experience,” Solomon writes in the album notes. “These works expand
the violin and piano repertoire while offering voices that are both individual and universal. It is
my hope that this recording not only celebrates their beauty, but also allows these voices to be
heard more fully, shaping a more inclusive and resonant musical landscape.”
The recording was made possible through the Holder Fund for Faculty Innovation at Agnes
Scott, which supports faculty scholarship and creative work. These funds are available thanks to
Beth Holder ’82.
“I am deeply grateful for the college’s awarding of funds for this project, which would not have
been possible without that support,” Solomon said.
The project is proof that Agnes Scott is built for innovation—faculty who continue their own
scholarship and creative work, and who bring that work directly into the classroom. Students
studying with Solomon learn from a recording artist actively shaping her field, not simply
teaching about it.
